Un futuro per il bacino di Varese

VARESE, 27 luglio 2014 – I mondiali non sono ancora finiti, ma si moltiplicano gli apprezzamenti per gli organizzatori delle regate varesine. Matt Smith, Direttore Esecutivo della FISA, non è nuovo a valutare i bacini remieri italiani con la finalità di ospitare competizioni internazionali, con grande cortesia non si sottrae a dare una prima valutazione su questo evento non lesinando sia gli aspetti positivi che quelli negativi. “Sono molto felice di stare qui e sono particolarmente soddisfatto di come procedono le cose. C’è molto spazio per gli atleti, il campo di regata è ottimale così come tutte le strutture, dal parcheggio per i carrelli alle tribune. I regatanti inoltre hanno una adeguata possibilità per il riscaldamento e il defaticamento. E poi c’è la novità di Casa Rowing Italia che rappresenta un’area particolarmente apprezzata da tutti”.

A questo proposito qual è l’aspetto più positivo di questa iniziativa? “In tutti i Giochi Olimpici si è sempre registrata la presenza di queste iniziative. È il luogo in cui gli sponsor presentano i propri prodotti, gli atleti e le loro famiglie si incontrano, i tecnici e i dirigenti parlano in completo relax. Questo modello è stato applicato anche a Varese con grande successo al punto che è auspicabile che l’iniziativa si possa ripetere anche in altre occasioni”. Il livello qualitativo dell’organizzazione varesina negli ultimi anni è migliorato o è peggiorato? “Dal 2008 ho seguito tutti gli investimenti e le ambizioni delle società e degli amministratori varesini unitamente ai progetti della Federazione Italiana Canottaggio: debbo dire che ogni anno si è provveduto ad alzare il livello degli investimenti e della qualità dei servizi. Inoltre gli alberghi e le strutture recettive sono vicine al campo di regata e funzionano particolarmente bene. In Italia si mangia bene e questa non è una novità, il lago è perfetto per il canottaggio, il clima è favorevole. In definitiva sono tutti molto contenti”.

Quale è la tua idea per l’ulteriore sviluppo del canottaggio? “Penso, sempre al riguardo di Varese, che per gli organizzatori sarebbe molto bene avere una regata internazionale ogni anno poiché sostiene lo sviluppo del canottaggio con continuità. Tutti sono contenti di essere qui poiché questo campo di regata è facilmente raggiungibile da tutta Europa ed è particolarmente vicino allo scalo aereo di Malpensa. Poi le bellezze naturalistiche fanno il resto”. Cosa hai notato, invece, di problematico? “Tutti stanno facendo bene, non trovo appunti da fare. Qualche piccolo problema con i trasporti nella giornata di lunedì, ma con la collaborazione dei responsabili abbiamo subito trovato la soluzione. Alcuni alberghi, inoltre, non hanno capito bene che i vogatori mangiano fino a cinquemila calorie per giorno, forse occorre bene chiarire questo importante particolare prima di concordare i prezzi”. I volontari, i ragazzi che hai incontrato ovunque nell’area dei mondiali che impressione ti hanno fatto? “Un’ ottima impressione. Sono sempre pronti ad aiutare e sono sempre disponibili per ogni richiesta. Questa mattina già dalle ore sei erano pronti con il sorriso sulla bocca nonostante la pioggia. Danno una mano in ogni occasione, veramente magnifici”.

A future for the Varese regatta course

Regarding this, what is the most positive aspect of this initiative?

” During all of the Olympic Games we always see these initiatives. It’s the place where the sponsors have the chance to present their own products, where athletes and their families meet, where coaches and managers speak in complete relax. This model has also been applied in Varese with great success to the point that it is desirable that the initiative can be repeated on other occasions” .

The level of the organization Varese in recent years has improved or worsened?

“Since the 2008, I have followed all of the investments and the ambitions of the club and the local authorities together with the draft of the Italian Rowing Federation: I can confirm that every year was decided to raise the level of investment and the quality of services. Also hotels and accommodation structures are close to the race course and work well. In Italy people eat well and this is not new, the lake is perfect for rowing, the weather is favorable. Definately, they are all very happy. “

What is your vision for the further development of rowing here?

“I think that the for the organizers would be very good to have an international regatta every year in Varese since it supports the development of rowing with continuity. Everyone is happy to be here because this race course is easily accessible from all over Europe and is close to the Malpensa airport. Then the natural beauty of the environment do the rest.

“What you’ve noticed, however, problematic?

“All are doing well, I can not find notes to do. A few minor issues with transport on Monday, but with the cooperation of those responsible we have now found the solution. Some hotels also have not understood well that the rowers eat up to five thousand calories per day, maybe it should be good to clarify this important detail before agreeing on prices. “

How do you like the volunteers, the guys you’ve met anywhere at the venue during this Championships?

“I had a very good impression. They are always ready to help and are always available for any request. This morning already by six o’clock they were ready to help smiling despite the rain. They help at every opportunity, truly magnificent”
