Scomparsa di Pippo. I ringraziamenti della Famiglia Mondelli

ROMA, 13 maggio 2021 – La famiglia Mondelli, vista l’impossibilità di rispondere singolarmente alle centinaia di messaggi che ha ricevuto per la perdita di Filippo, ha voluto scrivere una lettera pubblica di ringraziamento da divulgare attraverso i mezzi di comunicazione. Di seguito la versione italiana e quella inglese della lettera a firma di Monica, Guido ed Elisa Mondelli.

“Non ci immaginavamo tutto questo, nel bene e nel male che tutto ciò ha comportato.
Ancora a metà tra realtà e fantasia, con queste parole desideriamo restituire almeno una parte della vicinanza che abbiamo sentito stretta attorno a Filippo e a noi.
È impossibile rispondere a tutti senza dimenticare qualcuno, ma allo stesso tempo è impossibile dimenticare ogni pensiero, ogni parola, ogni gesto che non solo in questi giorni, ma da molto tempo, abbiamo ricevuto e continuiamo a ricevere.
Filippo in questi mesi non è mai stato lasciato solo: dai compagni di barca agli amici d’infanzia, dagli allenatori ai dirigenti, dai colleghi ai superiori, dai medici agli infermieri ai fisioterapisti di Como e Bologna, da chi l’ha conosciuto di sfuggita a chi l’ha compreso nel profondo. Non solo in paese, ma da ogni parte d’Italia. Sono stati sentimenti veri, parole sincere, espressione di quello che lui era, speranze convinte, aiuti concreti. Curiosità e banalità non hanno avuto la minima voce nel silenzio che è risuonato autentico nell’ora più dura.
Filippo si è sempre sudato tutto, forse anche questo momento. Ha smesso di soffrire, ma non possiamo dire che ora sia felice lassù. Lui era felice qui, aveva ancora tante cose da portare a termine, tante da inventare, tante da sudare sì, ancora, ma altrettante di cui essere soddisfatto. Perché lui è sempre stato soddisfatto dei suoi traguardi, che fossero le Olimpiadi o le sue galline.
Sentire tanto affetto attorno a noi, come avere tante piccole grandi famiglie pronte a sorreggerci, rende possibile pensare a un domani. Proprio pensando al domani di altri ragazzi come Filippo, vogliamo che ogni gesto in suo ricordo sia convogliato in qualcosa di concreto, non in struggenti manifestazioni di rimpianto. C’è bisogno ancora di tanta ricerca per evitare che questa malattia così particolare ci strappi qualcun altro, per questo vi abbiamo chiesto di trasformare ogni lacrima, ogni fiore, ogni annuncio in fondi a sostegno di Beat It Indoor Rowing Onlus.
Nel ringraziarvi dunque, uno per uno, sappiamo che Filippo lascerà in ciascuno di voi un segno tanto profondo quanto quelle fatiche e quelle soddisfazioni che sono così ben riassunte in questa foto, una delle sue preferite.

“We did not imagine all this, for better or for worse that brought us here.
Still halfway between reality and fantasy, with these words we wish to return at least part of the closeness that we felt tightly around Filippo and us.
It is impossible to respond to everyone without forgetting someone, but at the same time it is impossible to forget every thought, every word and every gesture, not only these days, but for a long time, we have received and continue to receive.
Filippo in recent months has never been left alone: from boat mates to childhood friends, from coaches to managers, from colleagues to superiors, from doctors to nurses to physiotherapists in Como and Bologna, from those who have known him in passing to those who have understood him deeply. Not only in town, but from all over Italy. They were real feelings, sincere words, an expression of what he was, conviction hopes and concrete help. Curiosity and banality did not have the slightest voice in the silence that resounded authentically in the harshest hour.
Filippo has always worked hard for everything he has achieved, perhaps even this moment. He stopped suffering, but we can’t say he’s happy up there now. He was happy here, he still had many things to do, so many things to invent, so many goals to achieve, yes, again, but as many to be satisfied with. Because he was always happy with his goals, whether it was the Olympics or his chickens.
Feeling so much affection around us, like having so many small big families ready to support us, makes it possible to think of a tomorrow. Just thinking about the tomorrow of other guys like Filippo, we want every gesture in his memory to be conveyed into something concrete, not in poignant manifestations of regret. There is still a need for a lot of research to prevent this particular disease from tearing someone else from us, which is why we asked you to turn every tear, every flower and every publicity into funds in support of ” Beat It Indoor Rowing Onlus”.
In thanking you, therefore, one by one, we know that Filippo will leave in each of you a sign as deep as those labours and satisfactions that are so well summarized in this photo, one of his favourites.
