La FISA lancia Varese per il Mondiale Under 23 del 2014

ROMA, 20 giugno 2011 – Il board della Fisa ha reso noto oggi due importanti decisioni relative ai Mondiali Assoluti 2015 ed ai Mondiali Under 23 del 2014. Nel primo caso, sosterrà la candidatura francese di Aiguebelette, già sede della rassegna iridata nel 1997. In corsa per la designazione erano anche la scozzese Strathclyde e la nostra Varese dopo il ritiro annunciato da Brest e Brandeburgo.

“Tutti e tre i dossier possedevano grande qualità, ciò ha reso più difficile la decisione, che è arrivata dopo vari approfondimenti” scrive in una nota ufficiale il direttore esecutivo della FISA Matt Smith. Sarà quindi la località della Savoia, poco distante da Chambery, ad esser proposta all’Assemblea delle Federazioni aderenti alla Fisa che dovranno votarla a Bled lunedi 5 settembre.

Il board della Fisa ha, invece, espresso il proprio gradimento nei confronti della candidatura di Varese per i Mondiali Under 23 del 2014.  Tale scelta spalanca le porte per la possibilità di ospitare un nuovo ed importante appuntamento internazionale in Italia dopo i Mondiali Coastal 2011 (Bari), la Coach Conference 2011, gli Europei 2012 e la World Rowing Master Regatta 2013 tutti e tre in programma a Varese.

“Il nostro lavoro, assieme a quello della Provincia, del Comune e della Canottieri Varese, sta dando i suoi frutti. Conoscevamo il valore della candidatura di Aiguebelette, un campo di regata che ha già ospitato due mondiali di altissimo livello. La FISA ha invece indicato il gradimento della candidatura Italiana per il Mondiale Under 23 del 2014 a testimonianza dell’ottimo lavoro svolto. Entrambe le decisioni dovranno essere ratificate al Congresso di Bled. Questo é un ulteriore passo avanti che da alla Federazione maggiore credibilità” ha detto il presidente federale Enrico Gandola, intervenuto nel fine settimana, assieme al consigliere federale Fabrizio Ravasi, al presidente della Provincia di Varese Dario Galli e al presidente della Canottieri Varese  Mauro Morello, al consiglio FISA di Amburgo.

FISA Council Announces its selection for the 2015 World Rowing Championships
 

The three bidders for the right to host the 2015 World Rowing Championships – Lake Aiguebelette, France, Loch Strathclyde, Great Britain and Lake Varese, Italy – presented their bids to the FISA Council on Saturday in Hamburg, Germany.

The 2015 bid process started last October with a bid seminar for all participants in Lausanne, Switzerland. The bidders then hosted the FISA bid inspection team for detailed inspection visits in March and April. The bidders submitted their complete bids in printed form to FISA on May 31 May.

According to Rule 5 of the FISA Rules of Racing, the Council shall select the most suitable candidate and propose it to the Congress for final approval. The Congress will take place on 5 September 2011 in Bled, Slovenia. The 2015 World Rowing Championships are scheduled to take place from 30 August to 6 September 2015 and serve as the main qualification for the 2016 Olympic Games regatta.

All three bids were of very high quality which made the decision difficult, but, after a very detailed evaluation, the Council has selected Lake Aiguebelette, France as its selection to present to the Congress. Lake Aiguebelette is a natural lake located in the Savoie region of France, near Aix-les-Bains and Chambéry. It previously hosted the 1990 World Rowing Junior Championships and the 1997 World Rowing Championships.

The Council then selected Lake Varese, Italy to present to the Congress for approval as the host of the 2014 World Rowing Under 23 Championships.

The FISA Council would like to express its sincere appreciation to the bidding national federations and the support they have received from their government authorities for their tremendous efforts to prepare these outstanding bids.

The reasoning for the Council’s decision will be published in advance of the Congress.
